What is an Endoscopic Discectomy?

Endoscopic Discectomy is a minimally invasive technique used to treat select lumbar disc herniations. During transforaminal endoscopic surgery, image-guided passage of a wire is performed safely avoiding the neural elements.

A cannulated tube portal is then advanced over the wire. Next, a highly specialized spinal endoscope is introduced through the portal directly visualizing the disc herniation which is then surgically removed and a band-aid applied.
